New statue of grandfather Battambong. This remade one doesn’t seem to represent the heart of Khmer arts.
-I overheard the story of lok ta battambong statue years ago. The original statue was destroyed by Vietnamese installed government(CPP) after their invasion and they replaced a new statue with a black color which to depict the skin color of Khmer people. I don’t know if it’s true story but I am not surprise to hear such degrading on Khmer race, Vietnam has a history of looking down at other race…I am not surprise at all. If anyone have a full information about old and new statue of lok ta battambong, please share with us. I am still learning about Battambong and the statue.

Hey WTF u mean? I’m Dark Skinned n Khmer(i pass enough to be black).. R u sure u are Khmer urself or r u one of the light skinned Khmer Chen. R u implying the many n majority of our dark skin Khmer ppl is a disgrace. Ur sick if thats the case or prolly u r ignorant n white wash. i feel sorry for u cuz u r basically ashame of the color texture of the origin of our ppl. The ppl that many look down upon, i am ashame that u feel n let the color of my ppl n native blood condemn us. That’s why we have young beautiful kmher women who bleach their skin to look whiter (self included, but now i know the truth n i’mma luv my Dark/ Black Skin Color Regardless of how ignorant ppl like u feel). i feel sorry for them n u. Go learn ur history b4 u misjudge us like the viets n the thais.
Dark or light, “asian” southeast and most part of the asia pacific that referes to Cambodian,Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai..etc. These asian are not biologically born white skin or light skin. They are naturally born yellow skin. The level of darkness and lightness of their skin depends upon HOW MUCH SUN they expose. Country like Cambodia has gone through decades of war, people have to work outside a lot under strong heat from dawn to dust. There’s no proper skin protection, extreme sun exposure everyday.
I am pure blood Cambodian and my skin is very fair, light. All of my family are. We say “sar doch salei” white like cotton. That’s the color of my family skin. Nothing to be proud of or have pride in it. To us or many Cambodian, color is color.
I explain you why my family has very light skin.
Location; we live in a cold state.Too cold to get out in the sun. And all year round, all of us work in the office, basically trap in the box house with either heater or ac. Not much natural sunlight.
