Vietnam involvement in killing field

THE GREAT CAMBODIA DEBATE:

Before John Arnone and Kurt Heck take the “Great Book Readers” advice on Who Is Who in Cambodia, they may wish to look at the true facts not in the bookstore.

—-Many years ago, I chased the current Police Chief of Cambodia around Tay Ninh Province of the then Republic of Vietnam. Though now known as Hok Lundy, he was then named Nguyen Van Son. The actual leader who asked the Vietnamese to intervene was Pen Sovan. He, of course, fell from power and was jailed in Vietnam when the relative of his wife, Pham Van Dong, lost out to the the relative of the wife of Hun Sen; Do Moi. Before this event, Hun Sen was only number 8 in the leadership sponsored by Vietnam. The reason the U.S. Government did not recognize the Government installed by Vietnam was not because it supported the Khmer Rouge, but because true Cambodians had little or no say in that Government and little now.

—-Much is made of the U.S. and Thai support for the resistance to Vietnamese occupation. Many have made this to mean support for the Khmer Rouge. The only group not needing U.S. support was the Khmer Rouge. China more than adequately supplied them at the request of then Prince Sihanouk. Many nations assisted the non-communist resistance to Vietnamese occupation.

Know your leader. Vote smart!

Cambodian parliamentary elections
will be held on July 27, 2008. I encourage all Khmer citizen to vote. Every vote counts.Tell your family and friends. Please take action. It is important to have the right leader, leader who works for his people, by his people and with his people. Leader who cares for his country.  Not for his pocket or for someone else. Almost 30 years of war, poverty stricken and  corruption, it’s time for a change. Democracy is the way to go. It’s a big chance. Do something good for Cambodia, go vote!  Please mark your calendar and reminder.

Comparison between the two candidates:

And while he faces danger with his life, Sam Rainsy  continues to fight to implement freedom and democracy in a dictatorial Cambodia.” He’s a professional, great scholar, good listener, noble soul to his people. He’s the man who stand and fight for Cambodian of all cause. Despite many bad attempt by the CPP, Mr.Sam Rainsy never give up his seat, he returns and becomes stronger each time.

Riddle of the day

Land Evictions in Cambodia Continue

Title: “Land evictions in Cambodia”

November marks another month of forced land evictions in Cambodia. On Nov. 2, an entire village of 130 families was demolished near Phnom Penh, and on Nov. 15, another 300 families were evicted in Northern Cambodia.

I recently spent several months in Cambodia working for a nongovernmental organization in a community development project, where I saw first-hand evidence of the problem. I will never forget the Cambodian woman who stood before me, clutching her baby and holding on to another child. Tears poured down her face as she described her eviction by the police and relocation some 20 kilometers outside Phnom Penh. Her new “home,” is an unsettled site that offers nothing more than a makeshift shelter, lacks running water, latrines, electricity and access to a clinic or school.

Forced evictions have become a common occurrence as valuable land is sold for development. Land rights are a tricky thing in Cambodia. The 1993 and 2001 laws outlining legal land ownership are often overlooked or ignored.

While evictions are occurring in many areas, the number of families affected is small, and thus the problem is not drawing much attention.

"Kabocha"

Cambodian pumpkin was brought to Japan by Portuguese sailors in 1500’s which leading to the name kabocha. The Japanese named kabocha after Kambuja or Kampuchea(Cambodia). In Khmer language, we call it Lpoeu. Portuguese call it “Cambodia abóbora.”

Kabocha_0 kabocha

Lpoeu is prepared in many ways in Khmer cooking.
-Cha lpoeu sach jrouk/monn( pork or chicken stir fry pumpkin)
-somlor kohkor (vegetarian type of soup)
-somlor proher(another type of vegetarian soup with smoke fish)

For dessert:
-lpoeu songkja (stuffed coconut milk and egg custard)very popular dessert in Cambodia.
-lpoeu kthih (pumkin with coconut milk in syrup style)

These are just a few menu to name them.

*When shopping, look for dark green skin and heavy Lpoeu. Darker and heavier means the pumkin is mature and rich in vitamin (E). The texture is a little sticky when eating, that is the best pumkin. Good and mature pumkin should look like the picture above or even darker is better. Pka lpoeu (pumpkin flower) is edible.

"Land Grabbing’s Revolution"

Before war it was heaven, when war arrived it became the worst hell, now back to heaven? Welcome to bOOOoming Cambodia, kingdom of “greed!!” Big corporations, small companies, private enterprise and real estate are moving in. Business around the globe are joining in and pop up like mushrooms. And you’re next? Got money? Want a piece of land for your business? Come to Cambodia, the government will sell it all to you. It’s easy just decide the location and give the right price, you will have it. Be patient, a simple process needs to be done before they sell the land to you. First they will have to steal it from the local residents, then they bulldoze any evidence of heritage, after houses and the land cleared out, then you pay for the lump sum. There you go, now it free and clear.  Heaven for the government and hell for Cambodian people. “Land grabbing’s revolution,” the next genocide, war is not over yet. Cambodian are now victims of land grabbers.
