Chumreap Suo Khmer Empire,
Thank you again for a very powerful message. I am sure my Cambodian visitors will take this message into consideration. If not all at least a few :)
Those wild children that you are describing will one day remember their root. If not, it would be a great shame.

I do understand what you mean. I've travelled around and paid close attention to world communities and realized that Khmer do not have strong bond within themselves. We can blame the children but the biggest issue is AT HOME. What have the parents been doing? Most Khmer parents discipline their children mainly about morality; respect and not harm others. BUT education goes beyond and should be varieties. When country going through invasion, information should be taught and discussed at home. I understand that it is difficult for many of us to cope with trauma and we always try to forget but CORRECT HISTORY and information should be taught. The adults are the role models.

Chumreap Sou SKO,

I've given adviced to many kids here in the state. Never forget your ancester, they said they know our pride. Those kids are born abroad can't speak/write/read KHMER their mother tongue. We have temple here for weekend study no many showed up it seem they don't care. Believe we all here over 30-40 something years. Their Americanize most never been home.

Therefore, these kids have their own crowd such black, white, hispanic, filipino and etc. boyfriend/girlfriend. They don't come as a NATION and seem not to care much about our root. They fought each other every now and then. Some are ready repatriated back home.

Just like in the past same thing like Khmer Surin are Khmer/Thai and Khmer Krom are Khmer/Vietnamese. We should stink together as one NATION. We united we win, we divided we lose. That's why we fall and now let's stand up, speak up, and proud of our NATION.

To Gingerbread and Tilldoomsday,

Your views above are pretty well-balanced considering that you are a Vietnamese nationalists as you have admitted.

The article above is directed at the Khmer readers, to present some basic facts (from our perspectives anyway) so they would know something about our history related to our long lost territories. The article is not in any way trying to fuel racial hatred amongst Khmer neighbours.

The history of Khmer Krom and Kampuchea Krom is a very painful history for any Khmers. Past atrocious treatments of the Khmers by past Vietnamese authorities are undeniably facts. This is not to say that the present Vietnamese generations should take full responsibility for the actions of the your Vietnamese ancestors for what they have done to Khmers. But the present reality cannot be denied either.

While the Vietnamese immigrants in Cambodia were accorded very good, and sometimes special treatments by the Cambodian authority, our Khmer Krom brothers and sisters living in Kampuchea Krom in South Vietnam have been treated very badly by the Vietnamese authority. They were not allowed freedom to practise their religion, culture and open schools to teach their kids their mother tongue. At the same time, in Cambodia, Vietnamese immigrants can build schools everywhere to teach their children the Vietnamese language to them. I want to add also that most Vietnamese immigrants in Cambodia are illegal immigrants, but the Cambodian authority allow them to live freely and the Khmer people never bother them or harass them. I don't think that the Vietnamese authority would allow a Khmer illegal immigrant to live in peace in Vietnam.

Any way, this is the fault of both governments. Between people to people, the Khmers and the Vietnamese should have no issue with each other whatsoever.

Hey Cambodians, we're friends, now and then, please use your history experiences carefully, what you wrote on this site is true, but the way you admitted information was not sound. It's too extreme. You wrote as if we(Vietnameses) had stolen your lands :(. You are patriot, so am i, a Vietnamese, and you can be proud of your country, so do i. It is History, just let it sleep peaceful in the books and past... Now we have to deal with the economic crisis, cry for the past is too pathetic.

Sorry to say that, but i think your article is biased.

First i will clearly state that i am a Vietnamese, and I will not deny anything you post up as you will not listen if i say that anyway. In another words, i will "assume" that everything you said here is true. But you didn't mention these:

In 1949, you mentioned that Khmer Krom people were treated badly (books were burnt, were discriminated...)by the government. However if you looks again, that event happened during the 1st IndoChina War, and i'm pretty sure the VietMinh (and supporters) in the South receive worse treatment: declared outlaw, being wanted, tortured...etc... by South Vietnam government (royal and under French control)

You also mentioned "On April 1975, in Kampuchea Krom the North Vietnamese took over South Vietnam. Vietnamese communists did the same to Khmer Krom; they forced Khmer Krom to “relocated”, abandon homes and businesses".
Once again the South Vietnamese, especially those lives within cities or own lots of properties claimed they received the same treatment: be “relocated”, abandon homes and businesses(they still complaint now after 30 years also).

The final part: you mentions about how millions of Vietnamese living in Cambodia is facing a comfortable life when Cambodia children have to live on the street. Those same terrible condition can be seen in Vietnam as well, as we are not really any richer than you.
Actually, it's quite a normal fact: the individuals who can choose to live in another countries or their own; often to be the one who have average (to superior) wealth. If you do not believe, you can check to see that the average Khmer people live in Vietnam is also much richer than the average of Vietnam.

Those are just some major points. I don't want to go to the rest as it will be too detail

In conclusion, I believe you have the right to be angry against any Vietnamese individuals that once or still harass your nation; and i will not by any means defend them. But you should understand that any Vietnamese will also say we suffered as terrible or worse for conflicts in IndoChina: 1st indochia war, 2nd indochina war, the Khmer Rogue...... and not like we (as Vietnamese) can choose to avoid any of those conflicts. So please do not fuel the hatred among OUR nationS, because it never gonna turn out well for both of us

PS: I personally don't mind to have a multinational culture, so i will not have any problems to have a Khmer Krom president(as long as he can do his job well)or if you think the South Vietnam as your home land.

Khemara Nisett,
Svakum! Thank you for your support. If all Khmer unite and help rebuild, we will one day have all our lost territory back. It's not impossible because those were our ancestor's land. All it takes is our courage.

wow, I know it! it really sad, Cambodia from large to small. I am so sad to hear this thing again, now, in cambodia, most of young people cant count all of consonent or vowel of khmer. Young people now are car racing or motor racing, escape from school to go to bar and drinking and smoking. My heart is nearly stop beating! they dont think that they are too lucky that they can go to school and study than the begger and the poor! I think now English is more important then khmer language in cambodia because of what? because, they think that khmer language not gonna make them rich!

I wish I could help to change our country again, to be more developed country than thai, vietnam and laos, to let them know that we are not dumb people as they used to think of us and they cant look down on us as before then strength the economic and make khmer language, the most important language in Cambodia.

I dont know that we could have that day or not!
but Dont worry, If i stand up and you all stand with me, we make a different!

Go Go! Cambodia, I know we can do it!
